Martial Arts
Syconium CIC is affiliated with a designated martial arts centre (the centrally-based Tao Centre) where we can organise training in various styles of martial arts. This covers general health and fitness, self defence and advanced combat skills. The sessions are successful in developing self discipline and confidence as well as building physical strength and flexibility. This is a great tool for working with young people and allows an appropriate outlet for working out frustration in a productive and safe manner.
Boxing Training
In addition, we have trained boxing coaches (ABA trained) who can facilitate boxing classes for groups of young people. We can also access outsourced trainer training for boxing to enable people to be able to run coaching sessions themselves if they are interested in taking it further.
Healthy Living Programmes
As an important part of young people’s development and a key government agenda, we can run sessions that cover all aspects of healthy living. Centred initially around a sports / fitness activity such as martial arts or boxing, the agenda of this work is to touch upon themes that affect young people’s health in general. We often cover issues such as excessive alcohol intake, substance abuse and risky sexual behaviour as well as the effects of poor diet and lack of exercise. Rather than delivering these sessions round a table, we prefer to get the young people engaged in healthy physical activity so they can start to feel the benefits of exercise and teamwork to give a context to the health and fitness advice.
